Medical Air Systems

Reciprocating

Scales Industrial Technologies can supply oil-less reciprocating medical air compressors to meet your every need. Our oil-less units are specifically designed to operate without oil anywhere in the unit, crankcase or cylinders. The piston rings are made of a PTFE material that requires no lubrication. Totally sealed and pre-lubricated crank and connecting rod bearings ensure long life and smooth operation. Air-cooled design eliminates concerns about bacterial contamination from the water sealant and high water costs are eliminated.

Our oil-less reciprocating designs range from 1 to 30 HP for single stage units, and for the highest efficiency, from 10 to 30 HP we offer a two-stage design. These air-cooled machines are designed for maintenance-free operation for up to 3 years and can be packaged any number of ways to best suit your needs.

Whether you need to meet current NFPA specifications, ISO standards, or if you have special clean-room requirements, Scales Industrial Technologies has the experience and capabilities to engineer your system properly.

Oil-Free Rotary Screw

Also known as "dry screws", available in sizes up to 500HP, single and two stage, air or water-cooled, these dependable compact designs are all pre-packaged in a sound attenuating enclosure with microprocessor controls and offer discharge pressures of up to 150 PSIG. Units are NFPA compliant and ready for use with minimal installation requirements. Delivering 100% oil-free air, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, these machines require only minimal annual maintenance.

Oil-Less Scroll

Multiple Scroll Medical Systems are designed to provide medical breathing air for hospital and medical institutions. These systems meet NFPA 99 requirements for Level 1 breathing air. A typical package includes multiple oil-less scroll air compressors and associated equipment, an ASME coded tank, one medical air dryer system, one dew point monitor, one carbon-monoxide monitor and one multiplex control panel. Typically the only field connections required is system intake, exhaust, and power connections at the control panel and between-skid air and power connections. All interconnecting piping and wiring are usually included and operationally tested prior to shipment. The benefits of a scroll system include a small foot-print, very low noise levels, high reliability, and low maintenance costs and fully compliant with NFPA 99 as a complete system.

In operation, one scroll remains fixed and the other attaches to an eccentric, driven by an electric motor. As the moving scroll orbits around the fixed scroll, the pockets formed by the meshed scrolls follow the spiral toward the center and diminish in size. The compressor inlet is at the periphery of the scrolls. The entering gas is trapped in two diametrically opposed gas pockets and compressed as the pockets move toward the center and the discharge port in the fixed scroll. No valves are needed because the discharge port is isolated from the inlet. This reduces noise and improves unit durability.

Liquid Ring

This design uses water as the sealing and cooling medium and is seen in installations worldwide. Available with water recycling packages or once-through systems. This design can be the most compact of all, and will fit into the tightest of spaces.

Breathing Air

Scales Industrial Technologies can design, supply, and install stationary and portable systems that will take any standard compressed air source and treat it so that it meets OSHA Grade D breathing air requirements, or ISO and FDA standards. Scales breathing air systems are designed for use in many industries, including:

  • Chemical
  • Petrochemical
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Clean Air Facilities
  • Portable Breathing Apparatus
  • Hospital

We also have monitoring equipment available to test for pressure dew point, CO levels, and hydrocarbon contamination.
