Bill Scales is Chief Executive Officer and one of the founders of Scales Air Compressor Corporation, now Scales Industrial Technologies. Bill Scales is an internationally recognized expert in compressed air systems and has been involved in the air compressor industry since 1952 as a “hands-on” mechanic, engineer, author and consultant. He has visited more than 5,000 facilities and audited or provided energy assessments of hundreds of compressed air systems throughout the United States, Asia, Australia, South America, and Europe. He has been responsible for designing and installing systems of all sizes, and has recommended and implemented measures to reduce operating costs and improve compressed air system reliability.

The Compressed Air Challenge (CAC), a US Department of Energy initiative, selected Bill to co-author the 350-page Best Practices for Compressed Air Systems manual. He has been a member of the Project Development Committee since the founding of the CAC. This committee is responsible for program strategy and overall project coordination of the Compressed Air Challenge. Bill represents compressed air consultants and presents their concerns to the CAC. In addition, he reviews and edits articles that will be published with Compressed Air Challenge sidebar notation. He is a member of the Technical Core Group that defines and writes the training curriculum. As the pilot instructor, Bill presented the introductory Fundamentals workshop program to the board of sponsors of the CAC. He is also an instructor for the Advanced Management of Compressed Air Systems training and also interviews, selects and trains new instructors to teach CAC workshops.

Bill received a Bachelor of Power Engineering (Electrical and Mechanical) from New York Polytechnic University in 1956. He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the ISO TC-28 Committee engaged in developing standardized specifications for appropriate lubricants for all types of air compressors.
